RTA revamps Dubai Metro signage with 9,000 new installations
Clearer exits and etiquette signs aim to ease commuter journeys
DUBAI’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Keolis MHI, has executed a comprehensive upgrade of wayfinding signage across all Dubai Metro stations.
The project, designed to improve the daily travel experience of metro and tram users, saw 9,000 units replaced and installed in a process requiring approximately 11,000 workhours.
What has changed?
According to Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Operations at RTA’s Rail Agency, the initiative covered every station on both the Red and Green lines.

The work included the installation of new entry and exit signage, clearer directional indicators on platforms, and floor stickers guiding passengers to the correct lines.
Exit signs are now marked with bold yellow boxes to improve visibility, helping commuters navigate stations with greater ease.

Who benefits most?
RTA highlighted its focus on passengers using designated cabins. New signage for Women and Children cabins and Gold Class cabins has replaced older floor markings, now appearing as prominent pink and gold boards for easier identification.

The move aims to reduce unauthorised use and ensure comfort for these categories of travellers.
How is it integrated?
The updated wayfinding extends beyond physical stations. RTA has harmonised the changes across its digital platforms and systems, with improvements reflected in mobile applications, train and platform audio announcements, and social media channels.
Behavioural messages have also been introduced via stickers across stations and waiting areas, encouraging commuters to observe etiquette and maintain public transport decorum.
